Dudley
Sailing Club has the use of a reservoir in the heart of the Black
Country which is suitable for boats of up to fifteen feet in length.
There
are a wide variety of sailing boats available for use by club members
and people on training courses. These include Wayfarer, Enterprise,
GP14, Laser, Topper, mirror and many others. In addition, there
are several boats specifically intended for use by disabled people.
These boats are designed to be unsinkable and uncapsizable.
There
is a large clubhouse with a picture window overlooking the lake
and, of course, a bar.The changing rooms have constant hot water
and showers and the clubhouse has a small kitchen which serves low
cost snacks when there is sufficient demand.
Training
courses are available during the summer months for the young and
old alike and these are, considered to be a very enjoyable learning
experience. All equipment is provided and all that is needed is
a change of clothes. Not only are students taught to sail but also
to 'self rescue' should a capsize occur. Safety is taken very seriously
at the club and a fast safety boat is always available when boats
are using the lake.
Racing
is an important part of club activity and events are organised during
the year involving other sailing clubs both home and away.
